Healthcare and homelessness are often somehow connected. About half of homeless have serious health conditions. Most are not being treated. If this is the case for you, these are ways you may be able to get help.
Medicaid
While Medicaid can be difficult to get when you don’t have a home address, most shelters will help you sign up.
Healthcare for the Homeless programs
There are at least one Healthcare for the Homeless facilities in each state, though there are typically more. You can find a facility near you here.
Homeless Veteran Healthcare Assistance
Both the Homeless Veteran Health Care and Domiciliary Care for Homeless Veterans program serves homeless veterans in need of healthcare in VA hospitals, housing, and clinics. You can find more information here.
Federally Qualified Health Centers
FQHCs are health care facilities receive grants so that they can help those who would not otherwise be able to afford healthcare. Search for a center near you here.
When you’re homeless, healthcare can seem inaccessible. Know that there are programs specifically to help you get the care you need.
